|For the past three decades, members of the NFL Alumni
have worked to fulfill the organizations stated mission of caring for
kids. A 501 (C) (3), NFL Alumni, carries out its mission by actively
raising funds for youth-oriented charitable causes and engaging
hands-on service to foster the development of "youth through sorts and
sport through youth".
The cornerstone of NFL Alumni, fundraising
efforts is its Charity Golf classic Tour. Another NFL Alumni tradition
is the Player of the Year awards dinner held annually during Super
Bowl weekend in the host city - which is South Florida this year. The
fundraiser honors 11 of the best players of the past NFL season.
Winners are chosen by a unique voting process in which alumni cast
ballots for their modern counterparts but only for the position they
once played. Each award is presented at the dinner by a member of the
Pro Football Hall of Fame. Approximately 200 former players
participate in the organization's Super Bowl events each year, from
golf tournaments, to a sporting clays challenge, pre-game party and
youth clinics. This camaraderie harkens back to the NFL Alumni's
